Cartons contain some of the highest-quality paper available in the recycling stream, and recycled cartons are used to make paper products, such as tissues, paper towels and writing paper, or sustainable building materials, such as roofing cover board or wallboard.
The Carton Council is committed to helping sorting facilities, recycling programs, end markets, schools, companies and brands get the most out of carton recycling.

Carton Council was established in 2009 with a goal of establishing robust and sustainable infrastructure for food and beverage carton recycling in the United States. We work across the recycling value chain to increase both access to carton recycling and carton recycling rates, diverting valuable cartons from landfills.
Learn More about the Carton CouncilWhen Elopak, Pactiv Evergreen, SIG and Tetra Pak joined forces to form the Carton Council in 2009, only 18% of U.S. households had access to carton recycling and just 6% of cartons were being recycled.
Through our pre-competitive collaboration, we’ve worked across the recycling value chain to increase household access to 62% while achieving a recycling rate of 20%.
